CV- Draft 2 and 3

Image
Here's my first CV attempt. I liked the look of this, however I think the coral looked to bright. I also forgot to take off the header on the second page. I might need to take out a few words in the CV too.  I think the turquoise colour is more and pleasant to look at while still tying in to my logo in the top left. I also changed "Extra" to "Other" just to make it more professional. I will still have to edit a few bits and re read to make sure it's at the best standard. I will include my experience with etsy too.

Networking and Social Media: Linked in

Image
To Start creating connections in the business I decided I needed a linked in account. This can be used as my own personal CV. And if I keep liking and sharing posts, my activity will increase and I will be seen as hireable.  Update I have been interacting with posts on Linked in and I already have 16 new connections and will continue to do so throughout my career. I have also made a few private messages to others in the same industries that I would see myself going in to. Linked in is a valuable website for me to carry on doing this to connect with potential clients.

Aquila magazine  https://www.aquila.co.uk/ I was researching into different publishing routes and also editorial illustration when I came across Aquila Magazine. This is a magazine targeted to children. It is an educational magazine making school subjects fun such as Science, History and General Knowledge. I would love have an edition which includes my illustration and to help inspire children with education. This would be perfect fit for me, this is because I love illustrating educational subjects, for example I'm illustrating a Perseus and Medusa trail in Negotiated Programme. I think my style and visual language would suit this kind of magazine. To be able to work with them I will have to create a professional portfolio and contact them through email.  Folio Society https://www.foliosociety.com/ I have always been interested in the Folio Society throughout my art career. To be able to illustrate a classical book or even a renowned children's book would be a highlight...

CV- Draft 1

Image
Here's my first draft of my CV. I wanted to make the colours similar to the ones in my logo however, it just looks messy and unappealing. To edit this I will try out different colour palettes or maybe just stick to one colour. Because I have a lot of work experience in hospitality I found it hard to keep it to one page. So when I recreate this CV I will edit the line spacing to make sure that it's equally spread out.

CV- Old Cv, thumbnails and mock-ups

Image
Previous CV  As you can see, this CV is old and clearly meant for part time jobs for a sales assistant or a waitress. It still has all of my grades from GCSE and it also hasn't got my new jobs and achievements. I last updated this at the start of April 2021. It isn't interesting and doesn't sell me as an illustrator. So, when designing my new CV, I will make it more bright, make it so it stands out and targets publishing agencies.  Thumbnails of New CV Here's a few thumbnails of CV designs. The ones that look most effective would be the top right and the bottom left. Having the self portrait on the left and the contact information on right is very appealing to look at. It also shows off my illustration ability too.  Here's my first mock up of the border. Overall, I think it's effective and still being professional while showing off my personality. The only problem is the legibility of the text in the top corner. Without zooming in you can't really make out w...

Career opportunities- 5 Clients Research

Image
Penguin Random House Publishing The first client I looked into was Penguin Publishing. It is my goal to become an illustrator or designer at Penguin. To research what children's book are successful I went to their home page and clicked on picture books. Most of these of bright colours that will pop out on a bookcase. When looking at their website further, I noticed that the first step of getting published is the get an agent.  Another way to get published is to have a good relationship with the editor. Have a great manuscript and already know what genre, target audience and theme. You need to know there's a large enough audience for the book and that it's viable.  For picture books specifically, editors are looking for an original and clever story, that is either heart-warming or funny. You also need to understand that although children are the main audience, so is the parent.  Before handing the story over to the editor, you need to redraft and redraft. Make sure y...

Creative CV- Research

Image
Examples of Creative CV's  This CV is formatted in a way that shows all of her personal qualities. This is by turning her CV in to a form of top trumps card. It shows she creative and not afraid to be different, and it efficiently shows her skill levels without any confusion or over explanation. It's to the point, and direct while. Incorporating humour.  Here's a different CV I found, made by "Nigel". It's a different style than I'm used to and wording is a bit strange but I thought it could be a notable piece to research to show how different each Creative CV can be.  This is a more professional CV created by Kelli Marie. It's interesting and gets to the point. Using the colour black is simple and really effective, and the use of quirky infographics adds and interesting twist to a normal CV.  Here's another CV created by Anja Uhren. It's fun and exciting. Not too many words but tells the client everything they need to know about her. It shows...

Website Research

Examples of Illustrators websites https://www.chloebreeze.co.uk/ Here's Chloe Breeze's Website. It is bright and colourful without being to distracting from the artwork. On her first page she has products she sells on her shop and the artworks. Her links on her website are "Home, About, Shop, Custom Illustrations, Murals and Weddings". So as you can tell from the start it shows she can create a range of work.  https://www.lucycashmoreart.com.au/ This is Lucy Cashmore's Art Website. Similar to Chloe Breeze's website, she has her products from her shop on the front page. Then she has a link to her "Art Prints, Portfolio, Textiles and Drawings". Because her artwork is bright and colourful she uses a white background so that her art work isn't too distracting.  https://charlotteleadley.co.uk/ Charlotte Leadley uses bright colours in her work so doesn't use a coloured background. It seems to be a running theme for each of these illustrators to ke...

Promotional Piece, Networking and Social Media Channels

Image
New Website Design https://www.amyelizabethillustration.co.uk/ Here are a couple of screenshots and a screen-recording of the main page on my website. I have completely revamped and updated the theme of the website. Previously it was just a place where I put my artwork on and I tried to make it look professional. It looked too corporate so I decided to change it all up and use a white background so that all of my working is exciting and pops out. I also included a more personal bio in my professional statement that includes my personal preferences with my artwork and also my goals for the future.  To continue to develop this further, when I start creating art pieces that I want to sell again, I will include a shop section on the website.  Previous Instagram Page  This is my previous profile picture and bio for instagram. The bio still calls myself an illustration student, this doesn't sound professional or interesting. Although for instagram you aren't meant to put a lot ...

New logo and Self Portrait

Image
New Logo  I wanted a new and playful logo for my illustration account and for my website and future branding. This one links more with my illustrative style. I still wanted to maintain how my previous one looked. I kept the robins as a reference to my last name and I also kept the flower boarder. However, I did change the colours and style of a few.  First attempt at a self portrait   I knew I wanted to have my self portrait with a side profile from the start. This is because I prefer drawing the nose this way. However, when I began to design my self portrait I didn't know what style to do. At first I started off with an outline and experimented with the eye shape. In the first colour experiment I did, I thought it was successful but it didn't suit the style I have now. When I draw animals and people, I hardly ever use an outline so although I liked the outcome, I needed to re draw it with bigger eyes, without an outline and more texture. Thats when I ended up with t...
