Reflecting on my Career Opportunities

When beginning my research into different career opportunities, I knew that writing and illustrating a children’s book was something I wanted to do in the future. My number one goal is for my work to be published by Penguin Random House and everything, in the 5-year plan I created, will hopefully lead me to this goal.  So, I began looking into different creative writing courses, the most appealing to me was created by Oxbridge. It was an online course that spanned over 12 months but normally would take students up to 4 months. I knew this would be a perfect option for me as I could spread the hours over a longer period.  As well as this, I also started looking into a Masters in Illustration, I looked into a few, but I liked the look of Falmouth the best, and if I didn’t want to leave Staffordshire, I could do a 2-year course online.  However, as I investigated a masters further, I knew I didn’t want to commit to another 2 years at university at this stage in my life...

Creative Statement Drafts and Final

First Draft I am a dedicated and determined individual with a vibrant personality. A creative mind with a passion for illustration, specialising in children’s book illustration. I have experience in Adobe Design Software, mostly using Photoshop and Illustrator I’m a fast learner, quick to grasp new ideas and concepts, but equally as eager to offer my enthusiasm in a team setting as well as independently. I’m a diligent and hard-working person, who is committed to developing my professional and personal life. This first draft of my personal statement is the one I normally would use for my CV so it's professional and is straight to the point. However, I do think that I could add more personality in there even if I use this for my CV.  Second Draft  I am a freelance illustrator based in Staffordshire. I specialise in writing and illustrating children’s books. As well as this, I also enjoy designing prints, greeting cards and book covers. I work with a range of mediums, but I lo...

CV- Draft 2 and 3

Here's my first CV attempt. I liked the look of this, however I think the coral looked to bright. I also forgot to take off the header on the second page. I might need to take out a few words in the CV too.  I think the turquoise colour is more and pleasant to look at while still tying in to my logo in the top left. I also changed "Extra" to "Other" just to make it more professional. I will still have to edit a few bits and re read to make sure it's at the best standard. I will include my experience with etsy too.

Networking and Social Media: Linked in

To Start creating connections in the business I decided I needed a linked in account. This can be used as my own personal CV. And if I keep liking and sharing posts, my activity will increase and I will be seen as hireable.  Update I have been interacting with posts on Linked in and I already have 16 new connections and will continue to do so throughout my career. I have also made a few private messages to others in the same industries that I would see myself going in to. Linked in is a valuable website for me to carry on doing this to connect with potential clients.
