Career Opportunities: 4 clients- Creative Writing

 Creative Writing Courses

https://www.coursera.org/

This was one of the first writing courses I researched and although its flexible and 100% online, without starting a trial, you can't tell how much you would have to pay. There's only 4 courses and lasts 6 months so could be an easy way to get experience. However, it is only at beginner level and there's no detail about the certificate you are rewarded with at the end.

Overall, it was interesting to look into as it allowed me to find the aspects of a creative writing course that I would want and don't want.

This was an interesting course to look at. It's the full experience of having online sessions with tutors. Similar to the previous course, you can take it at your own pace. On this website you have a choice between 3 courses and the price increases as more detail is added. The Book in a Year is £1495 a year. This includes 4 courses and 9 one on one tutor sessions. The Complete Book in a Year is £2150 a year. This includes 4 courses and 12 tutor sessions with feedback to a total of 20'000 words. The Finished Novel Course is £2999. This includes 5 courses- the extra course is a full manuscript read and the feedback to a total of 20'000 words.

They suggest a lesson a day on the online platform. 15-20 minutes each lesson. Recommend 1 hour a day for writing. You can book sessions with an author mentor at a time that suits you. In these sessions you can troubleshoot any problems you encounter.

Overall, I think this is too expensive for me. It could be a possibility in the future, however, I think for now a beginners course with a Level 3 certificate is my preferred option.

This Open study College is the most appealing to me at the moment. This is due to the significant difference in price and the amount of resources it offers. I will achieve a level 3 certificate in creative writing. The course duration is 1 year. The amount of study hours will be 80. I will be assessed by tutor marked assignments.

The content is 6 units:
1. creative writing- what it entails
2. different texts and genres
3. developing characters, dialogue and style
4. creative writing processes Pt 1
5. creative writing processes Pt 2
6. Writing scripts for radio and TV

Overall, this course looks very appealing for me. However, the writing for TV and radio is an extension of creative writing that doesn't link to my aspirational career of being a children's book illustrator and author.

This course is very similar to the previous one I looked at. This is interesting to me as in the details regarding the course it tells me that the average student uses 4 months to finish this course but you have a full year to complete this. This is useful information as it allows me to spread my time over the 12 months, if I choose to,  so that I don't get overwhelmed with the online sessions.
